The name
Our name 'Yookaalee' is the sound of local dialect for referring to Eucalyptus oil in the hills of Ooty, a small town in Southern India. Eucalyptus oil is also popularly known as Nilgiri oil in this region. We used it because it has a nice ring to it. At Yookaalee we believe in the power of pure, natural and authentic products. It is our endeavor to have our customers experience this difference through our products.
The Madras Kadai (The Madras Shop)
The year was 1947, while the whole country was brimming with pride of a free India, a young Mr. Achuthan Nair set out on his journey to set-up The Ootacamund Eucalyptus Oil Refinery (fondly referred to as The Madras Kadai) in a small hill town called Ooty in South India.
Over the decades this young man put his heart and soul into producing the purest essential oils and handed over this legacy to his generations to follow. This company has built a name and an unwavering reputation of trust and loyal patronage for over 7 decades now.
This reputation continues to this day, for if you ever travel to this town and ask the locals where you get good essential oils you will be promptly be pointed to 'The Madras Kadai'.
Reviving an Ecosystem
Over the decades there has been an exponential rise in the use of imported synthetic oils as a cheap substitute for natural oils. These oils could be hazardous to health, defeating the very purpose of these essential oils itself.
The ecosystem of extracting the natural oils has also been impacted negatively due to the steady decline in the demand for natural oils to it's cheaper alternatives.
Yookaalee is an honest venture focused on reviving this ecosystem by identifying honest suppliers who ethically source, natural oils, and similar products with a clear focus on purity and quality and make them available to the larger market.
